From photo to figurine: what actually happens in between
· 5 min read

Ordering a figurine of yourself used to mean finding a made-to-order shop, writing a brief, trading photos over email for two weeks, then waiting six weeks for a package you had never seen. JoyLamp compresses all of that into something you finish from your phone. Five steps separate your camera roll from your shelf, and the most important one belongs entirely to you.
Here is the honest version of the tour: what we commit to, and nothing more.
Step 1: the photos
Everything starts with three to six photos of the face going on the figurine. Not a studio session: phone photos are exactly what the funnel expects. Below three, the likeness starts slipping. Past six, we stop learning anything new. And they are not optional, at any point: there is no version of this where your face gets made without them. What a good set looks like:
- The face clearly visible: no sunglasses, no wild crop
- Light: daytime, near a window, beats any filter
- Eyes on the lens in at least two or three of them
- Slightly different angles rather than six takes of one pose
- For more than one character, a full set of photos per person
Step 2: your figurine takes shape
Once the order is in, the whole set is read together to get one coherent likeness, in the format, the size, the style and the universe you picked. We check and correct every model before it prints. A few days later the render lands in your inbox, turnable, zoomable, from every angle.
That render is not a marketing argument. It exists because a figurine of your own face has exactly one acceptable outcome: it has to look like you.
Step 3: your approval, or nothing
Nothing reaches a printer without your explicit yes. The render you approve is the file the printer receives: same face, same pose, same finish. That is why the whole thing is built around an approval instead of a surprise box.
If the render is not right, say so. 2 rounds of changes are included until it is, and support picks it up from there. And if a set of photos cannot be used at all, too dark, too cropped, too far away, we ask you for a better one BEFORE the model is built rather than after it ships.
Step 4: resin and coating
Approved figurines are 3D printed to order in premium resin, with the color printed into the material rather than laid on top of it. No sticker face, no paint waiting to chip, and no stock: each figurine is produced exactly once, for exactly one person.
Each piece is then sealed under a UV-resistant coat, so the colors hold up on a sunny shelf instead of going orange by August. A print that does not come out right does not ship. We print it again.
Step 5: it leaves
Production runs 7 business days from the moment you approve the render, with an express option that brings it down to 4, then a few days in transit. Compare that to the six weeks a made-to-order shop quotes you. Every order ships tracked, and you get an email the second yours goes out.
That is the whole trip: photos at one end, a small person at the other. The only part that takes any taste is the style of the figurine, and we gave that one its own article.
Prices start at 69 € for a one-person figurine, changes included. When you are ready, the product page asks you four things in order: the format, the size, the options, the photos. The style and the universe are thumbnails under the big image, already set, so if the default suits you there is nothing to do.
